FLAME, one of Europe’s longest-running energy conferences, was held for the 31st time recently in Amsterdam. The conference gathered more than 600 energy leaders from across the globe to discuss and update on developments in gas, LNG, low-carbon and renewable gases in Europe, including hydrogen. Key takeaways from the three-day event included a view that Europe’s energy supply is being rearranged due to geopolitics and drastic changes in some oil & gas producing countries, and that this is making the goal of reaching net-zero tougher to achieve.
Ready4H2 Director Barbara Jinks presented at the event to share the project’s recent research results on the essential role of hydrogen distribution and to moderate a session looking at current hydrogen projects. She noted that:
It was widely acknowledged that the use of hydrogen as a fuel is an option to decarbonise gases, and that more hydrogen projects are underway around the world year on year. However, the key challenges to ramping up hydrogen still include supply and demand, pricing regime and the conversion of end use appliances and processes.
